Austin, a former BIG BOW Associate Teacher, reached out to let me know that the novel we read as a class a few years ago is now a movie! The book was Flora and Ulysses, a wacky story about a squirrel that gains superpowers after getting sucked up a vacuum cleaner. He is befriended by a young girl named Flora, who names him Ulysses. My returnee elementary class loved this funny story, so I was happy to hear that it is now on Disney+ in Japan.

Quite a few novels we have read as a class in our returnee classes have been made into movies, such as Wonder and Because of Winn Dixie. However, you have to be careful because some movies have different endings than the novel, such as The Giver, and some are nothing at all like the book, like How to Eat Fried Worms. As most readers end up discovering, the movie is never as good as the book!
